The fifteenth edition of Foam Magazine's Talent issue presents a selection of artists, each in their own way, trying to capture the current zeitgeist. Although the world faced many challenges in 2020, Foam received the highest number of submissions to date: 1803 entries from 72 countries. The common thread through all these submissions was the focus on one of the most important themes of our time: the "condition humaine. One of these talents is Lisandro Suriel who is currently on view at the gallery.
On the cover of Foam Magazine #58, you can see the work of Lisandro Suriel, an image from the Ghost Island series from which Mama Winti hangs in the ARWE Gallery.
In addition to the usual sections, this issue features a conversation between Carmen Winant and Laia Abril (SP), winner of the 2020 Foam Paul Huf Award with her long-term project A History of Misogyny. The submitted sections Chapter One: On Abortion and Chapter Two: On Rape were unanimously received by the jury as exceptional examples of photography's ability to illuminate complex subjects. Part of Abril's winning project is on view at Foam as part of the prize until March 7, 2021.
