The ARWE Gallery is proud to present its third exhibition in the new space at Jeruzalemstraat 4 in Gouda. This time it is a large-scale survey of portrait art with the autonomous portrait as its subject. This can be a self-portrait, a group portrait, but also a work in which the human being is central in such a way that it borders between portrait and autonomous work of art. Beginning artists and established names show an enormous diversity of work in this exhibition. Some brought in recent work, others show older work. Overarching theme is the diversity of portraits and at the same time their similarities: a fine proof of diversity within one and the same theme.

As a reaction to the current divisions in society, created by excessive individualisation and the related pursuit of self-interest, the common interest seems to be snowed under. With this exhibition, gallery owner Edwin Spek wants to show that there is a fascinating diversity of opinion and elaboration among artists about the (self) portrait, but that at the same time there is also a great deal of overlap and agreement. Unity in diversity, you could say.

Visit the gallery on Wed-Sat between 11-17.
